- Requirement This was a failed flat roof that had previously been waterproofed using asphalt, and characterised by a great many upstands and penetrations. This presented a complex repair due to the need to cloak the existing material whilst forming new, permanent joins at the details. The main points of failure were found to be at the details – made the more difficult by the awkward shapes and angles of the various protrusions.
- Solution
Kemperol V210 was chosen for the repair due to its excellent bonding capability onto asphalt when used in conjunction with the Kemperol D primer. In this case there was no need to remove and dispose of the existing covering, which was simply inspected and prepared prior to priming, with the large tears and visible damage filled using a mix of Kemperol resin and quartz sand. Kemperol V210, like other systems in the product range, incorporates a reinforced polyester sheet, producing a permeable and highly elastic membrane that will withstand considerable thermal or mechanical movement. During application this can be cut and formed to produce high-performance, seamless joints wherever a detail or penetration breaks the integrity of the roof surface.
