- Project Primary school, Preston
- Roof Area under 500mē
- Substrate Asphalt
- Contractor D Shawcross
- Product Kemperol 2K-PUR
- Requirement The asphalt roof on the corridor linking classes in the courtyard of this Preston primary school had failed and was leaking into the classes below. The leak occurred during term time and to avoid damage to the fabric and need for redecoration an urgent repair was needed, however the demand on classrooms meant that even temporary displacement of pupils would be highly disruptive.
- Solution The contractor recommended solvent-free Kemperol, as the lack of fumes meant that repair could be undertaken without having to evacuate the occupied classrooms below. Also, as Kemperol bonds to existing substrates, there was no need to remove the failed material which saved on time but also avoided the disruption to people movement that would have resulted due to the strict health and safety regulations applied by the school.
As with all Kemperol products the repaired roof now has a life expectancy in excess of 25 years and was achieved with minimal disturbance and, much to the dismay of pupils, without having to cancel class!
