- Requirement The flat roof on this private girls’ school in Wolverhampton was getting fairly tired and had started to fail in several places, with cracks and tears in the asphalt, suspected leaks at the upstands to the rooflights and leaks into the rooms of the music block below difficult to isolate due to suspected tracking. Further waterproofing repairs were required to the copings and box gutters. The repair was scheduled during a holiday period, which meant solvent fumes and the disruption that temporary evacuation might cause were not an issue.
- Solution Kemperol V210 was chosen for the roof, having relatively fast cure times and excellent tear resistance. Because it bridges small gaps and tears and would bond easily to the asphalt without removal, it enabled the repair to be undertaken cost-effectively without having to remove and dispose of large volumes of failed material. It also has the advantage of being able to accommodate maintenance foot traffic without additional surface protection – something that was anticipated not only for roof maintenance but for cleaning rooflights and allowing access to the sash windows that opened onto the roof. Completed over a period of just a few days, the repair was immediately effective and had the unexpected benefit of a greatly improved appearance when viewed from the windows overlooking the annexe. Kemperol products have since been used on two further projects at the school.
