  • Project Thermae, Bath Spa, Bath
  • Roof Area 1200m˛
  • Substrate Concrete
  • Contractor Granflex Roofing
  • Product Kemperol 2K-PUR
  • Requirement This was a particularly complex project, comprising several discrete areas including a wet room, pool surrounds, shower room and steam room. The existing floor waterproofing in these areas – part of a prestigious refurbishment – had failed and was leaking badly, the main weaknesses being at the numerous and complex details – penetrations, plant and equipment, upstands and drains…. exacerbated by the demanding environment in which these were located. The client on this project was also looking for a manufacturer with a technical team that were not only reliable and competent, but with whom a close working relationship could be established through to completion.
  • Solution Kemperol was considered as the most appropriate product to restore the integrity of the floor due to its excellent bonding characteristics and ability to handle complex detailing. Kemper’s technical design team, together with the specialist contractors, spent time on site to appraise the existing problems and develop a recommended solution. Kemperol 2K-PUR, a BBA-certified, solvent-free waterproofing was the system used: a high-performance polyurethane resin which would bond well with the existing substrate and, being fleece-based, could be carefully cut to create waterproof, seamless joints at all the penetrations and upstands. Being almost completely odourless this system also allowed continued use of the adjacent facilities throughout the repair period. This was a highly tailored solution involving client and technical teams from both Kemper and the contractor.
