  • Project Light engineering manufacturing unit
  • Roof Area 2500mē
  • Substrate asphalt
  • Product Kemperol V210
  • Requirement This 1930’s engineering workshop and light manufacturing unit typifies the many flat roof repair projects for which Kemperol is ideally suited. Functional and not particularly glamorous, large areas of flat roof punctuated with stairways and Northlights – and often subject to long periods of standing water. A testing environment indeed. Patch repairs had been undertaken fairly extensively in the past with varying degrees of success; however reviewing the lifetime cost and inconvenience of this approach had persuaded the building owners to undertake a complete roof refurbishment. Whilst project cost was a key consideration, the need for a permanent solution was recognised. The original roof – hot bitumen – was in places patched, torn, cracked or blistered and with large areas of standing water it had become increasingly difficult to isolate actual leaks, with failures often tracking some distance through the roof structure before dripping into the workshops below.
  • Solution The existing substrate was first treated to excise any blistering, large gaps and tears filled and loose material / debris removed. Once prepared the whole roof was primed using Kemperol ‘D’ Primer and then waterproofed with Kemperol V210 – a 3-component polyester-based system incorporating a reinforced polyester fleece . This system is particularly suited to zero-pitch roofs and is highly tear resistant. It was also chosen because of its proven performance in similar situations (over 30 years) and versatility – well suited to the type of details present on this roof. The V210 product is able to withstand normal foot traffic, and with occasional access to the roof anticipated for maintenance and cleaning this was another reason for choosing Kemperol. Kemperol V210 is certified by the British Board of Agrement (Cert no. 95/3139) and ETA (Cert No. 03-0025).
