  • Project Large office car park, London
  • Roof Area 500m²
  • Substrate Concrete
  • Contractor Steele Roofing Ltd
  • Product Solvent-free Kemcote TFE
  • Requirement The existing underground car park at this London office building was somewhat dated in appearance, with an inefficient allocation of parking spaces, whilst the marking of specialist bays for disabled drivers, bicycles, etc. as well as walkways was unclear. The general ambience was also uncomfortable and not in keeping with the rest of the building. The aim was to improve this through resurfacing and re-marking of the parking areas and stairways - without removing the existing substrate - yet with a low build-up and meeting skid-resistance requirements. As this car park services a busy, occupied building in central London, the project needed to be completed as rapidly as possible and with minimal disruption to tenants.
  • Solution Following a site visit to establish the most appropriate product and any special requirements for priming and preparation, Kemcote TFE was recommended for resurfacing the concrete substrate. This is a water-soluble, 2-part epoxy sealant that forms a thin, easily cleaned film with excellent mechanical resistance, suitable for light-medium vehicular traffic. Being solvent-free there was no need to evacuate the building or other sections of the car park during application – despite the limited ventilation. The project was completed in just a few days despite the restrictive conditions and constrained access, resulting in a brighter, modernised parking area with good visibility and signage.
